Monday September 11th, 2017
- What undergraduate program in Psychology is right for me? Three-year BA or BSc? Honours BA or BSc? Or should I do Specialized Honours? Am I following the new program or the old program? What are my requirements? As of Fall 2017, the Department of Psychology has introduced new program requirements, and as of Fall, 2019 only Specialized Honours Students will be able to complete an individually supervised thesis (for Honours students, Psyc 4170 and Psyc 4000 will be fully replaced by Psyc 4180). In this workshop we will talk about what these changes mean for you, which program is right for you, and degree requirements for those following both the previous and the new program requirements. We will also talk about who should apply to the Specialized Honours program and what you need to do to ensure that you qualify.

- So you want to be a Clinical Psychologist? In this workshop, you will hear from graduate students and faculty about post-graduate programs in Clinical Psychology. Questions to be addressed include: (a) What options are available and how to decide what type of post-graduate program is right for me? (b) What would I do as a graduate student in a Clinical Psychology program? (c) What do I need to do in order to be a competitive candidate? (d) How to build a strong application?

- Is the Specialized Honours Program right for me? How do I apply? The Specialized Honours program is designed to benefit you by providing increased training in areas such as statistics and research methods that can make you more competitive and competent in research-oriented graduate programs. You will also receive additional guidance about how to develop the skills that you will need to excel in research-intensive graduate programs and will complete an individually supervised thesis. As of Fall, 2019, only Specialized Honours Students will complete an individually supervised thesis (for Honours students, Psyc 4170 and Psyc 4000 will be fully replaced by Psyc 4180). In this workshop we will talk about whether this program is right for you, how to apply, and the requirements for acceptance and graduation from this program.

In this workshop we discussed all aspects of the graduate school application process for psychology, with a particular focus on those interested in applying to programs in Clinical Psychology. For students applying in the next two years, there will be a special focus on writing the GREs, and applying for external funding, and gaining the experiences that you need to be competitive for these post-graduate programs. In addition, in this session you will hear about the costs and benefits of graduate programs, with a particular focus on how to make program work financially.

program in the world. Our academic standing is partly due to excellent
students and professors doing internationally recognized research. This was a
workshop about how to match up undergraduate students with professors on
research projects. Most competitive post-undergrad programs require extensive

Information sessions will be held on Fridays 11:30am – 1:30pm in Room 163 Behavioral Science Building (across from the Information centre on the ground floor of the building) unless otherwise noted. The information sessions typically last one to two hours. Attendance is voluntary, but recommended. A brief outline of topics to be covered this term is presented below.

APPLYING FOR FUNDING FOR GRADUATE STUDIES
Workshop will cover information you need to decide which agency to apply to, tips on how to go about it and resources for further information. The internal York application deadlines for OGS, NSERC, SSHRC and CIHR will all be in late September / early October). Watch this site – deadlines will be posted as soon as they are available.

Everyone can apply to OGS and to one of NSERC, SSHRC or CIHR, depending on your planned area of graduate study. You will need 2 transcripts, one for OGS and one for the federal agency you choose. ORDER THESE NOW – click here to Order Transcripts Online. Have them sent directly to the Psychology Graduate Office (BSB 297). The Graduate Office handles all graduate funding applications, even those from undergraduate students.

WRITING THE GRADUATE RECORD EXAM
There is a computerized General Test and a Psychology Subject Test. They take place at different places and times. Further details about the GRE will be provided at the workshop.
