Biography

Esther Greenglass obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. She has been a professor of psychology at York Univerisity since 1968. She is a Fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association, the  American Psycholgical Association and the International Association of Applied Psychology.. Her research is in the areas of burnout, gender, social support, coping and health psychology. Her current work focuses on the infuence of positive constructs on mood and burnout and has implications not only for psycholgical theory but also for health. Curently she is conducting a cross-national study of effects of the recession from a social psychological perspective and along with her graduate students, she has a team of over 25 interntional collaborators working on this project.

Current Research

Ongoing research is conducted in stress and job burnout, and positive psychology.  Professor Greenglass has developed the Proactive Coping Inventory (PCI) (in collaboration with R. Schwarzer), a valid and reliable instrument to assess coping that has been translated into several languages and is used in many countries and contexts to assess coping strategies. More recent research focuses on a theoretical and empirical investigation of psychological ourcomes of the recent economic recession and in particular, the relevance of stress and coping in relation to financial hardship using both self report and experimental methods of investigation..
